Will I Get a Certificate?

As of this time there are no legally granting bodies nor entirely agreed upon standards regarding any ancient Indian discipline within the west . While there are many groups attempting to put such strictures in place, there is no state that licenses practitioners in Yoga, Ayurveda, or Jyotish for that matter. Some schools and teachers have their own system to certify teachers. Some may also choose to identify with a certain group ( i.e. NAMA which is only one of the Ayurvedic organizations in North America), or choose to become a vocational school which is more about consumer protection than proper certification. It is important to recognize that no trainings meet the standards laid down by the World Health Organization nor are they attempting to. These have traditionally been spiritually based subjects handed down in close quarters. The advent of modernization has brought a desired need to fit these systems into a materialistic and systemic framework for easy dissemination – which they often defy. This has positives and negative aspects, but an important distinction to recognize as you try to navigate the field of alternative health care education and practitioners.
